Acoustic Geometry’s CornerSorber is a corner-placement bass absorber utilizing a Mass-Loaded Vinyl (MLV) absorption membrane in a cutting-edge design that mitigates low-frequency room modes for the most accurate sound reproduction in a room.
Why the CornerSorber? It is the only laboratory-proven bass absorber design that achieves maximum pressure-zone room-made noise reduction due to close-corner placement. These absorbers are designed to maximize bass absorption by allowing you to place them three inches from, and parallel with, each corner wall. This is where the most effective and efficient absorption and reduction of low-frequency room-made pressure waves happens. The CornerSorbers are also uniquely designed so that they fit these areas, with a beveled top and two beveled sides.
Acoustic Geometry’s goal is to bring the highest-performing and quality materials to you in order to provide professional-level solutions to a residential market. Our design goal with the CornerSorber was an affordable, easy-to-use solution that effectively reduces destructive low-frequency room modes. We didn’t want to claim any success in our product without first accurately and thoroughly testing it in a facility that was large enough to prove results. That’s why we decided to test the CornerSorbers at NWAA Labs because their test chamber is the largest in the U.S., and accurately measures absorption down to 40Hz (per ASTM C423-09a). We also made sure when running these tests that we positioned the CornerSorbers deep in 90-degree corners, where they were designed to be. The test results showed that placing the absorbers here makes these products incredibly effective and efficient as low-frequency absorbers.
What Does Absorption Do For My Space?
When building an audio-focused room like a home theater, listening room, or a recording studio, it is important to understand how sound travels and is reflected within that space. An untreated room will sound echoey and will not achieve the proper acoustical standards for listening or recording because there is nothing to stop the destructive interference of sound waves. When in a plain room with no acoustical treatment, the 6 flat surfaces that make up that room reflect sound. This reflected sound bounces around the room rapidly, interfering with the direct sound from the audio source. This could be a movie, a speaker playing music, or someone just trying to talk. The result of this is that the direct sound is a victim of destructive interference from the reflected sound, ruining how the original was supposed to arrive.
This is why acoustical treatments are critical in rooms. Absorbers help with reflected sound, making sure that there is less destructive interference. Bass sounds and low-frequency wavelengths are particularly destructive for listening in a room, and it is critical for audio optimization that there are treatments in place. That is where CornerSorbers come in. These absorbers help mitigate reflected low-frequency sound to give a room a more complete audio optimization. Used in combination with other absorbers and diffusers, the CornerSorber is a critical piece to any room where professional-sounding audio performance is a must.
How Does The CornerSorber Work?
The CornerSorber utilizes a unique beveled design in order to be placed deep in 90-degree corners to absorb low-frequency sound as effectively as possible. Due to the way that this acoustical treatment had been designed, it can easily be placed roughly 3 inches from the wall. This is the ideal position to catch low-frequency sound as it rebounds, helping balance the sound and overall feel of the room. The CornerSorber is created utilizing high-performance acoustic materials that are built to deliver quality results and last a long time. The back of the CornerSorber features Mass Loaded Vinyl membranes for pressure absorption.
This construction is unique in the industry to CornerSorbers and Curve Diffusors by Acoustic Geometry. The Mass Loaded Vinyl barrier on the backside of the CornerSorber is semi-taught, which allows it to flex and move with the pressure waves of sound in the room. This alleviates that pressure, in addition to heat dissipation, in order to provide noise absorption down to 40Hz. This is the only product in the industry, with the exception of CornerSorbers, that utilizes this method in order to provide high-performance low-level noise absorption.
Acoustically Optimize Your Home With CornerSorber
Whether you are looking to professionally optimize a recording studio or listening room where professional sound is key, or you are just looking to make a home music room, home theater, or home office a bit more balanced, CornerSorber is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce low-frequency sound for better room audio quality. When used in conjunction with other absorbers, diffusers, and professional acoustical materials, the CornerSorber plays a large role in a team of materials to help acoustically optimize a space.
At Acoustic Geometry, we provide CornerSorbers separately for customers to purchase, and we have taken the time to gather other acoustical treatments that work well with the CornerSorber together in order to provide Room Packs. These Room Packs provide everything you need in order to create an acoustically optimized room in your home. Acoustic Geometry offers packages that are perfect for recording, listening, home theaters, and much more. For example, pairing CornerSorbers with fabric-wrapped wall panels and ceiling clouds helps with a wide range of absorption. Pairing this with the wide-spectrum diffusion of Curve Diffusors then helps to keep the audio integrity of the room while reducing noise and echo for a premium audio experience.
Quality Products For Quality Results
We are proud to provide lab-tested and customer-approved solutions that not only outperform expectations, but are durable, easy to use, and are customizable to the look and feel that our customers want in their own audio solutions. For example, Acoustic Geometry worked with Aaudio Imports at Dana Point, CA. Aaudio Imports deals in high-quality speakers, receivers, and other sound solutions. We were thrilled to help them build a two-channel audio listening room so that customers could experience their products in an environment where they could truly appreciate the craftsmanship of the audio solutions. This was achieved using CornerSorbers, as well as other absorbers and the Curve Diffusor through our Pro Room pack option.
